Niranjana River Recharge Mission – Master Plan

"Strategic Goal"

To create a condition in which water flows in the river bed of Niranjana throughout year without any direct human intervention.

OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
(a). Enhancing water table in critical areas of the Niranjana River Basin.
(b). Below surface downstream movement of the water in the river bed of Niranjana should be slower and slower.

TACTICAL DIMENSIONS:
Rejuvenation of Niranjana River is a complex and time taking process. It has mainly three tactical dimensions as mentioned below:
(a). Comprehension: Before doing anything serious on the ground, we have to focus on thorough understanding of the many static and moving frames and their inter relations. In due course, this process will fructify into the development of an institutional memory of NRRM and that will be reflected in the establishment of a strong Niranjana Secretariat. We will reach this stage while knowing about:

1. Related case studies that may guide us in achieving our goal.
2. The opinion makers and potential allies who matters in the rejuvenation program of Niranjana at
local, state, national and international level.
3. Socio-cultural and economic life of the people living in the basin area.
4. Over the surface geographical conditions in the entire basin esp. the existing water bodies,
nature of soil, terrain, topography etc.
5. Existing and desirable vegetation (crops and trees) in the basin area.
6. Below the surface geographical conditions in the entire basin esp. the past, present and potential
aquifers associated with Niranjana.
(b). Communication:
Once our comprehension crosses a specific threshold, we should aim to communicate with the
people who are going to help us in the rejuvenation program. This communication may take
following forms:

Developing internal platforms- website, social media, newsletters
Using the external platforms- Newspapers, TV channels etc.
Indoor events- training programs, conferences, shows, exhibitions, cultural programs etc.
Outdoor events- Chhath Pooja, Niranjana yatra, Aarti, Nukkar Natak etc.
Live examples- We have to create a village or multiple villages that may act as models for replication in other villages.
(c). Coordination:
NRRM does not aim to be an executive agency. Instead, it wants to identify, motivate and empower
the wide range of individuals and institutions who may take up desirable initiatives in the
rejuvenation program. Some of such groups may be:
1. Individual farmers/ household.

Govt. agencies of state and central government
Chhath Pooja Samitis
Schools, colleges and other educational institutions
Farmers produce organisations
Voluntary social organisations
Religious institutions
